Accenture; the latest victim of Ransomware

You might have heard of LockBit, a cybercriminal gang, emerged on the landscape in September 2019, and in June 2021. Lockbit is again in the limelight as LockBit 2.0 with an advanced feature to automatically encrypt devices on a network. Their previous victims were The Press Trust of India and the UK’s Merseyrail train network.

Lockbit grabbed the headlines on Wednesday when Accenture, the accounting and consulting service giant, was reportedly hit by the LockBit ransomware group. It was first announced on a post made in a dark web portal saying, “These people are beyond privacy and security. I hope that their services are better than what I say as an insider. If you’re interested in buying some databases, reach us.” The ransomware group has claimed to have stolen 6 terabytes of data with a ransom demand of $50 million.

“We fully restored our affected systems from backup, and there was no impact on Accenture’s operations or our clients’ systems.” Said Accenture in a statement.
